Vedanta responds to 'Undermining Development'

Reflecting the momentum that the campaign around mining in Zambia has gained over the last few months, Vedanta has been forced to respond to Undermining Development?, a report from SCIAF, Christian Aid and ACTSA, which we released on this website after its recent launch. You can read Vedanta's response here, and a reply to the company can be read here.

Thanks for bringing this exchange between SCIAF and Vedanta to our attention.

This is a great achievement by SCIAF. The report was definitely hard hitting and has played a critical role am sure to steering government to take a more radical stance on the tax issue. More pressure is needed on the safety and environmental side that extends beyond the Vedanta.

Reflecting on the comments, glad to see SCIAF point out that Vedanta has not been open. We need them to operate in a more open way. Its quiet clear that they have tried to keep things under wraps.

I must agree with Vedanta on the question of the new proposed university. Provided that it works well, it could provide an excellent model on the public-private sector collabo that is crucial for providing adequate education in the long term.
